24mmPOV About Us Page
This site is dedicated to the passion, the art of photography.
A place where we will share what we know and and how we did it. I hope to hear from others who are as passionate about our craft as I am.
Simply put, I’m a retired guy from Alaska, living in Puerto Rico.
I maintain a separate travel site dedicated to Puerto Rico and what it’s like to live here. Someday I might actually make money at it. Good thing I have fun doing it. Puerto Rico is a ‘treasure trove’ of photo opportunity! I also maintain a website dedicated to Bamboo. Something I’m trying to grow. So far, so good.
My professional background is rooted in commercial print and offset lithography. My focus was pre-press prep, graphic art and typography. I do all of my own graphic art. There was a time I ran a Litho Trade shop producing phototypesetting, ad slicks, loose color ‘seps’ and composited color comps for the advertising community in Anchorage. This all took place before the development of Desktop Publishing. Using a Hell drum scanner prepared me for the roll-over to Photoshop. It was a very natural transition.
I also maintained a small photo studio,
but that was more for fun.
My background in photography is strictly experiential. I have no formal training over and above one evening class I took at community college. To train myself, I shot strictly black and white film during those early days which forced me to concentrate on composition, light and texture. I went through a bunch of 100 ft rolls of 35mm film and developed most of it myself. It’s how I learned to ‘see’.
Experimenting in the darkroom and then later in Photoshop has always been something I’m partial to.
I’m equally attracted to the science and craft as I am the the ‘art’ of photography. The separation of ‘Art’ and ‘Photography’ have blurred over the years. That is a subject I hope to explore in more detail. So you know, this site is not about MY photography. I have a separate site dedicated to that, though I am updating it as well.
If you have some unique aspect of photography you want to share, please hit me up. I look forward to it.
